Megan,
That is so cool that you are in orchestra! What do you play? I play the violin in our schools symphony. I love it because we have a full orchestra with strings, brass, woodwinds, and percussion. We get to perform at graduation, The spirit of christmas concert, and also regular performances throughout the year. We are playing the main theme from Schindler's List (GORGEOUS!!!), Viva La Vida by Coldplay, Swan Lake by Tchaikowsky (or however you spell it) and other songs! What songs are you guys playing? That would be hard to go back and forth from school to school though. You probably are buff from all the excercise! :) Nice to get to know you!

Janine,
I was so impressed with your goals because I share many of the same goals. I really wanted to get all A's this year and try to get a 4.0 throughout High School because getting a college scholarship is very important to me. I also try to work really hard on my assignments and such although sometimes I am lazy. I try to stay fit through dancing but I eat SO MUCH. That is a goal I could work more towards. I was reading about you and it said that you have a teacher with an accent for first period. That would be so cool! I love people with accents. Good luck!

Alexius,
I had trouble deciding what school to go to also. A lot of my friends in my neighborhood were going to SFHS but my parents and I were considering going to the charter school, ALA. I had to think about it a lot and finally decided to come to ALA for their fine arts program. It has been a great decision for me. Although we have a dress code and hard work, it is so much fun. I also met my best friends there. Without them and this school, I would not be who I am today. Some people in my neighborhood thought that ALA was a school for rich kids or nerds or something but it is really good! I enjoyed getting to know you!

Rachel,
That is so cool that you play the violin! I do too. I also know what you mean about you and your sister BFF's one day and "sisters" the next. Anyway, you are so lucky you get to sleep in so long! I wake up at 5:20 regularly and "sleeping in" is until 6:00 A.M. for me. I have a backpack that I carry all of my stuff in. I would use a purse but I have way too much stuff! Bye!

Friends Letters *project 6*
Tessa,
Thank you for being amazing! I look up to you so much and want to thank you for being an example to me. You are so talented. I love to watch you dance because you really express yourself and it makes me want to get better at dancing. You are also so supportive and uplifting. I remember when I have been stressed out our upset and you have came and helped me through it and were willing to lend an ear when I need it. Besides being an amazing example, you also make my life...... interesting! You can always make me smile whether it's from your jokes or you being "blonde." (Don't worry, I have those moments too!) I just wanted to say thanks again for everything you do for me! Love ya,
Savannah
Kaitlyn,
You are so funny! I love it when you break out in random dance choreography or show me your latest cheerleader moves. I also love it when you can tell me all your funny dance stories or certain Arizona stories (if you know what I'm talking about!) You can always lighten a mood and help me enjoy school through your awesome personality. Thanks for everything!
Savannah
Makayla,
I am going to miss you so much next year. You have changed me so much since I have met you. I used to not be very social and was quiet except to my very inner circle of friends. Ever since I have met you I have made more friends and have learned how to have more fun. You are a great example to me and I just wanted to thank you for everything you do. Always remember that you are so talented and don't ever give up on your goal for volleyball, school, and life. You always amaze me about how brave you can be. I am so terrified of doing dangerous things but you can always do it. Maybe someday you can get me to go skydiving with you. Maybe....... You are a cutie!
Savannah
Auriana,
I love you so much because I can really relate to you. We both have a love of music and books. I am so glad that we can always talk about anything and even feel comfortable not talking..... and reading! Thank you for being a "silent counselor" :) and for being a great friend. Bye!

My Goals: Eulogy (from the voice of a daughter) *project 4*
I am honored that I was asked to speak at my mothers funeral. She was a wonderful mother, sister, daughter, and friend. One thing I admired about her was her endurance and hard work. She was able to attend Brigham Young University with a full scholarship and then graduate with a Masters Degree. She worked very hard and it really payed off in the end. She also worked with the youth in our church. Although she knew how to work well, she also loved to have fun. I remember that while we were growing up, my mom would always make time for us. We would spend afternoons at the pool in the summer or skiing in the winter. She also did many small but sentimental things for us. I remember finding little notes with a treat for me in my lunch on countless occasions. I will always remember her playful smiles and jokes.
One goal that she was lucky to achieve was to travel the world. She always dreamed about going to ancient cities in China and gorgeous tropical islands in the Mediterranean. Dad always loved how she enjoyed to be in nature and experience it first hand in outrageous ways.
Our house was always filled with music. Whether it was from her soft singing voice with piano or playing the violin, mother was always able to lighten the mood and relieve you of stress through her music. Through her influence, I have learned to love and appreciate music and the effects it can have on you.
In closing, I just wanted to say that her heart was beautiful. She was always the first to lend a hand of service or an ear in troubled times. She was an amazing influence for good and was always able to make me smile. I am so grateful for all the times she just listened to me and offered words of comfort. I am thankful for all the times she has helped me in my life. Thank you.pr

School Dialogues *project 3*
School : dialogue #1
(Lunch time: at a Dance Company rehearsal.)
“Sorry, but I have to leave rehearsal early. Lately in A.P. music we are starting 15 minutes early so we can get some extra time in before the big test. I will learn the choreography later. Sorry!”
“It’s fine. Just make sure you go over the new stuff and run it a couple times. If you have any questions just ask Tessa or find one of us. See you tomorrow morning!”
“Bye!” (Walking upstairs from the auditorium to the classroom.)
“Hi, Mr. Bowman. I was wondering if you could help me really quick. …
(getting out the textbook and some music manuscript paper.)
I was trying to harmonize this melody on page 252 but I keep getting confused about which chord I should do. For example, in measure 6 there is a “G” note that I am supposed to harmonize. That could go in a I chord or a V chord in C major. Is there any special rule that will help me out?”
“There is not one specific rule. You will just want to look at surrounding notes and chords and figure out the best progression. If it is at the end of a cadence or phrase you will probably use it as a V chord so it can progress to a I. Any questions?”
“Nope, thanks!”
“Okay class, pull out your homework and set it on my desk. Then sit down and we will start by doing some dictation and listening.”
(Class groans)
School: dialogue #2
“Come on Tess, go get your stuff and then we can go to Drivers Ed. Macky is already waiting for us in the hall.”
“One second. I need to hurry and finish my 30 sentences. Ugh, it wouldn’t take so long if we could write it in English instead of Spanish!”
“I know, I swear I repeated the same sentence about ten times!”
(Tessa turns in her papers, grabs her MANY bags and we leave the classroom into the crowded hall where we join our friend Makayla.)
“Macky! Have you been having fun with Rheoda?" :)
“Ha, ha. But yes! Read this text he just sent me.”
(Tessa and Savannah both read the text and smile.)
“Too bad he has to go back Japan. Sad day….. Anyway, what did you end up doing on Friday?”
“I took Rheoda to ‘The New York BLAST’. It was fun. I sat with your family Tessa. You did great, especially in the dance numbers. It was a really good show. It makes me wish I still did dance or choir at our school with you guys.”
“Oh, thanks! I felt pretty good about the show. *pause * We better hurry and get to class!
(We all walk to class.)
